To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found University of New England to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a master’s degree in Maine. University of New England is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in Biddeford, Maine that handed out 514 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 83% of those degree recipients were women.
UNE does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 50% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Southern Maine. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Maine list. University of Southern Maine is a medium-sized public school situated in Portland, Maine. It awarded 444 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 80% of those degree recipients were women.
University of Southern Maine does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 94% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent master’s degree programs at University of Maine helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in Maine. Located in Orono, Maine, the fairly large public school handed out 397 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 64% were women.
UMaine does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 74% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Husson University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Maine list. Husson University is a small private not-for-profit school located in Bangor, Maine that handed out 202 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 67% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Husson does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 75% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Maine list. Located in Standish, Maine, the small private not-for-profit school awarded 191 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 68% were women.
Saint Joseph’s Maine is one of the schools on our list that is primarily online. Each graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
Thomas College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Maine College of Art. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 11% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Maine Media College came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Maine ranking. Maine Media College is a very small private not-for-profit school located in Rockport, Maine that handed out 11 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #11, Maine Maritime Academy did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their master’s degree. Located in Castine, Maine, the very small public school awarded 8 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.

Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree programs. Located in Portland, Maine, the very small private not-for-profit school handed out 4 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 75% of those degree recipients were women.
Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out IDSVA. Every graduate student at the school took at least one class online.

College of the Atlantic did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #13 on the list.
With a ranking of #13, Beal College did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their master’s degree.
