Out of all the majors we analyze each year, music was ranked #43 in the country. In fact 25,910 degrees and certificates were handed out in 2020-2021.
Today's students have lots of options to pick from when considering higher education opportunities. You're no longer limited to schools in your local area, either, since online programs are becoming more prevalent. Or you may find the programs at a trade school to be a better alternative for you.
To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Course Advisor has developed this Best Value Music Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. Our analysis looked at 126 schools in the Southeast Region to see which programs offered the best value experiences for music students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.
When determining this ranking, we place a high emphasis on the school's quality as well as its sticker price. Even though a college may be affordable, it may not offer value. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
Our calculations use out-of-state tuition and fees in our nationwide and regional rankings. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at John Tyler Community College are $10,803 a year.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means Western Carolina University is a great value for music students. WCU is a large public school located in the town of Cullowhee.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at WCU are $8,367 per year. Music majors at WCU take out an average of $28,749 in student loans while working on their egree.
Out of the 126 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Southern Mississippi landed the # 4 spot on the list. Located in the city of Hattiesburg, Southern Miss is a public college with a fairly large student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Southern Miss are $11,204 a year.

Out of the 126 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Central Arkansas landed the # 5 spot on the list. UCA is a large public school located in the small city of Conway.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at UCA are $16,433 a year. The average amount in student loans that music majors at UCA take out is $22,387.
University of North Carolina at Pembroke ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value Music Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in the distant town of Pembroke, UNC Pembroke is a public school with a medium-sized student population.
UNC Pembroke undergraduate students pay an average of $7,495 in tuition and fees each year.
With a ranking of #7, Arkansas State University - Main Campus did quite well on this year’s best value schools for music students. Located in the small city of Jonesboro, A-State is a public school with a large student population.

With a ranking of #11, Mississippi University for Women did quite well on this year’s best value schools for music students. MUW is a small public school located in the town of Columbus.

Tennessee Technological University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for music students. It came in at #12 on the list. Tennessee Tech University is a medium-sized public school located in the remote town of Cookeville.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Tennessee Tech University are $19,834 per year. Music majors at Tennessee Tech University take out an average of $18,950 in student loans while working on their egree.

With a ranking of #13, Morehead State University did quite well on this year’s best value schools for music students. Located in the remote town of Morehead, Morehead State University is a public school with a moderately-sized student population.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Morehead State University are $14,106 a year. While working on their degree, music majors at Morehead State University accumulate an average of around $26,000 in student debt.
East Tennessee State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for music students. It came in at #14 on the list. Located in the city of Johnson City, ETSU is a public college with a fairly large student population.

With a ranking of #15, Mississippi College did quite well on this year’s best value schools for music students. MC is a small private not-for-profit school located in the large suburb of Clinton.

University of Memphis did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for music students. It came in at #16 on the list. Located in the city of Memphis, UofM is a public school with a fairly large student population.
UofM undergraduate students pay an average of $14,088 in tuition and fees each year. Music majors at UofM take out an average of $24,250 in student loans while working on their egree.
University of North Carolina at Charlotte did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for music students. It came in at #17 on the list. UNC Charlotte is a fairly large public school located in the large city of Charlotte.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at UNC Charlotte are $20,622 a year. After completing their degree, music graduates from UNC Charlotte carry an average student debtload of $27,000.
