This report analyzed 46 schools in the United States to see which ones were the most popular doctor's degree programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Astronomy & Astrophysics program at each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Harvard University the most popular school in the United States for astronomy and astrophysics students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in the medium-sized city of Cambridge, Harvard is a private not-for-profit school with a fairly large student population.

Of the 17 students majoring in astronomy at Harvard, 47% are male and 53% are female.

University of Arizona

Tucson, AZ

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of Arizona. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Astronomy & Astrophysics Doctor’s Degree Schools list. University of Arizona is a fairly large public school located in the city of Tucson.

Of the 15 students majoring in astronomy at University of Arizona, 80% are male and 20% are female.
