Our 2023 rankings named Frontier Nursing University the most popular school in the Southeast Region for nursing students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in the rural area of Hyden, Frontier Nursing University is a private not-for-profit college with a small student population.
Of the 181 students majoring in nursing at Frontier Nursing University, 8% are male and 92% are female.

Florida International University landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree nursing programs. FIU is a very large public school located in the suburb of Miami.
Women make up 76% of the nursing majors at the school.
Northern Kentucky University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #10 on the list. NKU is a fairly large public school located in the large suburb of Highland Heights.
Of the 82 students majoring in nursing at NKU, 13% are male and 87% are female.
University of Florida landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree nursing programs. Located in the city of Gainesville, UF is a public school with a fairly large student population.
About 92% of the students majoring in nursing at the school are women while 8% are male.
The University of Tennessee - Health Science Center did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for nursing students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #13 on the list. UTHSC is a small public school located in the city of Memphis.
Of the 70 students majoring in nursing at UTHSC, 21% are male and 79% are female.
