To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Capella University to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a graduate certificate in the Plains States Region . This large private for-profit school is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and it awarded 1,322 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 84% of those degree recipients were women.
Capella University is one of the schools on our list that is primarily online. Each graduate student at the school took at least one class online.

The excellent graduate certificate programs at University of Missouri - Columbia helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Plains States Region . This large public school is located in Columbia, Missouri, and it awarded 472 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

Mizzou does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 67% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Missouri University of Science and Technology did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #6 on the list. Located in Rolla, Missouri, the medium-sized public school awarded 429 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #7, Maryville University of Saint Louis did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their graduate certificate. Located in Saint Louis, Missouri, the fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 352 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.

UST MN is a private not-for-profit institution located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 267 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 44% of those degree recipients were women.

Iowa State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #12 on the list. Iowa State is a large public school situated in Ames, Iowa. It awarded 230 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #13, A T Still University of Health Sciences did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their graduate certificate. Creighton is located in Omaha, Nebraska and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 166 graduate certificates to qualified students.

With a ranking of #21, Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their graduate certificate. Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is a small private not-for-profit school located in Winona, Minnesota that handed out 152 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 70% were women.

The College of Saint Scholastica landed the #22 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular graduate certificate programs. St. Scholastica is a small private not-for-profit school situated in Duluth, Minnesota. It awarded 143 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.

One thing to take note of is that St. Scholastica does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 50% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
University of Nebraska - Lincoln ranked #23 on this year’s Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in the Plains States Region list. Lincoln, Nebraska is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out graduate certificates to 130 students in 2020-2021.
Graduate Certificate recipients from UNL accumulate an average of $23,815 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Around 54% of those degree recipients were women.

Lindenwood University came in at #25 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Graduate Certificate Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. Located in Saint Charles, Missouri, the medium-sized private not-for-profit school awarded 94 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
