To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Minnesota - Twin Cities the most popular school in the Plains States Region for students working on their doctor’s degree. Minneapolis, Minnesota is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 1,773 students in 2020-2021.
Around 55% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UMN Twin Cities does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 65% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Capella University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region list. Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the large private for-profit school handed out 1,437 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 77% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at Capella University are primarily online school, so it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.
Out of the 106 schools in the Plains States Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Kansas landed the # 4 spot on the list. Lawrence, Kansas is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 916 students in 2020-2021.

You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at KU. In fact, around 69% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you attend University of Iowa. The school came in at #5 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region list. Iowa is located in Iowa City, Iowa and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 874 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.

You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Creighton. In 2019-2020 about 50% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Washington University in St Louis came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. Located in Saint Louis, Missouri, the fairly large private not-for-profit school awarded 742 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 52% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at WUSTL. During the 2019-2020 year, about 72% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

University of Missouri - Kansas City landed the #9 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. University of Missouri - Kansas City is a fairly large public school located in Kansas City, Missouri that handed out 615 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 55% were women.
UMKC does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. During the 2019-2020 year, about 66% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Palmer College of Chiropractic - Davenport came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. Davenport, Iowa is the setting for this small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 606 students in 2020-2021.
Around 43% of those degree recipients were women.
Saint Louis University came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. SLU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Saint Louis, Missouri. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 571 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at USD. In fact, around 58% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #19 on the list. Located in Saint Louis, Missouri, the very small private not-for-profit school handed out 238 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 62% were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UHSP does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 13% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Logan University landed the #20 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Logan University is a private not-for-profit institution located in Chesterfield, Missouri. The school has a small population, and it awarded 222 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 40% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Logan University. During the 2019-2020 year, about 78% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Kansas State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #21 on the list. K -State is a public institution located in Manhattan, Kansas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 339 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 58% were women.
One thing to take note of is that K -State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 52% took at least some of their classes online.
North Dakota State University - Main Campus came in at #22 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. Located in Fargo, North Dakota, the fairly large public school handed out 211 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 59% were women.

Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 20% took at least some of their classes online.
The College of Saint Scholastica came in at #23 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. Located in Duluth, Minnesota, the small private not-for-profit school handed out 208 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

Maryville University of Saint Louis landed the #24 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Maryville U is a fairly large private not-for-profit school situated in Saint Louis, Missouri. It awarded 201 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 79% were women.
Maryville U does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 91% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
University of St Thomas Minnesota came in at #25 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Plains States Region ranking. This medium-sized private not-for-profit school is located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and it awarded 196 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 61% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at UST MN. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 80% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
