Our analysis looked at 12 schools in District of Columbia to see which doctor's degree programs were the most popular for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found George Washington University to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in District of Columbia. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 1,086 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 55% were women.
GWU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 37% took at least some of their classes online.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Georgetown University. It ranked #2 on our 2023 Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in District of Columbia list. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the large private not-for-profit school handed out 1,014 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 55% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at Georgetown are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Out of the 12 schools in District of Columbia that were part of this year’s ranking, Howard University landed the # 3 spot on the list. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 567 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Howard. During the 2019-2020 year, about 24% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means American University is a great place for students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 451 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 59% of those degree recipients were women.
The American University does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 39% took at least some of their classes online.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Catholic University of America helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in District of Columbia. Catholic University of America is a medium-sized private not-for-profit school located in Washington, District of Columbia that handed out 201 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 59% of those degree recipients were women.
CUA does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 98% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Washington DC landed the #6 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. This very small private not-for-profit school is located in Washington, District of Columbia, and it awarded 90 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 80% were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at The Chicago School Washington DC Campus. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 20% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

Wesley Theological Seminary came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in District of Columbia ranking. Wesley Theological Seminary is a private not-for-profit institution located in Washington, District of Columbia. The school has a very small population, and it awarded 55 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since University of the District of Columbia does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 31% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Gallaudet University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the small private not-for-profit school awarded 30 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 87% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at Gallaudet. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 57% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family
With a ranking of #10, Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the very small private not-for-profit school awarded 4 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 75% of those degree recipients were women.
