In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Our 2023 rankings named The University of Texas at Austin the best value school in the Southwest Region for history students working on their doctor’s degree. UT Austin is a fairly large public school located in the city of Austin.

Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at UT Austin are $22,944 per year.

In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, UT Austin is ranked #4 for overall quality for history in the Southwest Region .

Out of the 12 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of North Texas landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in the midsize city of Denton, UNT is a public college with a fairly large student population.
