Out of all the majors we analyze each year, history was ranked #31 in the country. In fact 32,731 degrees and certificates were handed out in 2020-2021.

With all the programs available today, it can be tough to choose which one is the best for you. As online education oppotunities continue to grow, you're not restricted to just schools in your local area anymore. Even some of the 'big name' schools are offering online courses. Also, there are a number of trade schools with offerings that you might find attractive.

To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Course Advisor has created its Best Value History Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Our analysis looked at 36 schools in the Southwest Region to see which programs offered the best value experiences for history students with the aim of identifying those quality schools that are more affordable than some of their counterparts.

Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.

In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Top 10 Best History Schools

Our 2023 rankings named Arizona State University - Skysong the best value school in the Southwest Region for history students. Located in the medium-sized city of Scottsdale, ASU - Skysong is a public school with a very large student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at ASU - Skysong are $13,092 a year. After completing their degree, history graduates from ASU - Skysong carry an average student debtload of $28,276. This translates to an average monthly loan payment of $295, based on a 10-year repayment plan.

ASU - Skysong excels when it comes to quality. It’s ranked in the top 10% of all schools on our Best History Schools in the Southwest Region list.

Out of the 36 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Northeastern State University landed the # 2 spot on the list. NSU is a medium-sized public school located in the town of Tahlequah.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at NSU are $15,755 per year. The average amount in student loans that history majors at NSU take out is $23,165.

The excellent programs at Sam Houston State University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best history schools in the Southwest Region . Located in the town of Huntsville, SHSU is a public school with a fairly large student population.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at SHSU are $18,752 per year. While working on their degree, history majors at SHSU accumulate an average of around $27,451 in student debt. The average monthly payment of a loan this size is about $128, assuming that the borrower is on a 10-year repayment plan.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Tarleton State University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value History Schools in the Southwest Region list. Located in the remote town of Stephenville, Tarleton is a public school with a fairly large student population.

Texas Woman’s University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value History Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. TWU is a large public school located in the medium-sized city of Denton.
