To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Course Advisor has developed this Best Value Engineering Doctor's Degree Schools in the New England Region ranking. This report analyzed 15 schools in the New England Region to see which ones offered the best value doctor's degree programs for engineering students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Top 10 Best Engineering Doctor's Degree Schools
Our 2023 rankings named Northeastern University the best value school in the New England Region for engineering students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in the large city of Boston, Northeastern is a private not-for-profit college with a very large student population.
Out-of-state tuition fees for graduate students at Northeastern are $26,095 per year.
Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in the midsize city of Cambridge, MIT is a private not-for-profit school with a large student population.
MIT graduate students pay an average of $58,967 in tuition and fees each year.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, MIT is ranked #1 for overall quality for engineering in the New England Region .
Out of the 15 schools in the New England Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Harvard University landed the # 3 spot on the list. Harvard is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Cambridge.
Harvard graduate students pay an average of $52,170 in tuition and fees each year.

The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the best value engineering schools in the New England Region . Located in the city of Worcester, WPI is a private not-for-profit school with a moderately-sized student population.

WPI excels when it comes to quality. It’s ranked in the top 20% of all schools on our Best Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Brown University. It ranked #5 on our 2023 Best Value Engineering Doctor’s Degree Schools in the New England Region list. Located in the midsize city of Providence, Brown is a private not-for-profit college with a fairly large student population.
