Our 2023 rankings named Massachusetts Institute of Technology the best value school in the New England Region for chemical engineering students. MIT is a large private not-for-profit school located in the midsize city of Cambridge.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at MIT are $55,878 per year. Chem Eng majors at MIT take out an average of $13,266 in student loans while working on their egree.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, MIT is ranked #1 for overall quality for chem eng in the New England Region .

The excellent programs at Northeastern University helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the best chemical engineering schools in the New England Region . Northeastern is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Boston.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Northeastern are $57,592 a year. After completing their degree, chem eng graduates from Northeastern carry an average student debtload of $27,000. This translates to an average monthly loan payment of $364, based on a 10-year repayment plan.
