In 2020-2021, education students earned 5,729 degrees and certificates from a New Jersey school, making the subject the 4th in the state.
With all the programs available today, it can be tough to choose which one is the best for you. Along with traditional schools that require in-person attendence, you can attend one of many reputable online schools. Some programs even offer a hybrid experience. Alternatively, you may choose a trade school that prepares you to enter the workforce with knowledge in a specific field.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Course Advisor has created its Best Value Education Schools in New Jersey ranking. This report analyzed 22 schools in New Jersey to see which ones offered the best value programs for education students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.
Top 10 Best Education Schools
Our 2023 rankings named Essex County College the best value school in New Jersey for education students. Located in the large city of Newark, Essex is a public school with a medium-sized student population.
In-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Essex are $8,966 per year. While working on their degree, education majors at Essex accumulate an average of around $7,935 in student debt.

Out of the 22 schools in New Jersey that were part of this year’s ranking, Rowan College of South Jersey Gloucester Campus landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in the large suburb of Sewell, RCSJ is a public college with a moderately-sized student population.
RCSJ undergraduate students pay an average of $5,550 in in-state tuition and fees each year. On average, education graduates from RCSJ take out $9,808 in student loans while working on their degree.

In-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at TCNJ are $17,287 per year. The average amount in student loans that education majors at TCNJ take out is $26,128. This translates to an average monthly loan payment of $296, based on a 10-year repayment plan.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Montclair State University. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Best Value Education Schools in New Jersey list. Located in the suburb of Montclair, Montclair State is a public college with a fairly large student population.
The average tuition and fees for an in-state undergraduate at Montclair State are $13,298 a year. The average amount in student loans that education majors at Montclair State take out is $27,000. When it comes time to repay the loan, graduates who are on a 10-year repayment plan pay an average monthly payment of $346.
