Our 2023 rankings named University of Illinois at Chicago the most popular school in Illinois for computer science students working on their bachelor’s degree. UIC is a fairly large public school located in the city of Chicago.
Women make up 18% of the compsci majors at the school.
CompSci majors at UIC take out an average of $20,633 in student loans while working on their Bachelor's Degree. The average monthly payment of a loan this size is about $280, assuming that the borrower is on a 10-year repayment plan.

A rank of #2 on this year’s list means University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a great place for computer science students working on their bachelor’s degree. Located in the small city of Champaign, UIUC is a public school with a fairly large student population.
Women make up 25% of the compsci majors at the school.
The average monthly payment of a loan this size is about $477, assuming that the borrower is on a 10-year repayment plan.

Of the 129 students majoring in compsci at UChicago, 71% are male and 29% are female.
The in-demand bachelor’s degree programs at Northern Illinois University helped the school earn the #4 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in Illinois. NIU is a large public school located in the suburb of Dekalb.
Of the 128 students majoring in compsci at NIU, 84% are male and 16% are female.
On average, compsci graduates from NIU take out $24,467 in student loans while working on their Bachelor's Degree. When it comes time to repay the loan, graduates who are on a 10-year repayment plan pay an average monthly payment of $205.
Full Computer Science at Northern Illinois University Report
The in-demand bachelor’s degree programs at Lewis University helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular computer science schools in Illinois. Lewis is a moderately-sized private not-for-profit school located in the suburb of Romeoville.
About 14% of the students majoring in compsci at the school are women while 86% are male.
On average, compsci graduates from Lewis take out $23,513 in student loans while working on their Bachelor's Degree. Assuming that a graduate chooses a 10-year repayment plan, the average monthly loan payment is $349.
Northwestern University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for computer science students to get a bachelor’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. Located in the small city of Evanston, Northwestern is a private not-for-profit school with a very large student population.
