Along with in-depth profiles of schools and the programs they offer, Course Advisor has created the Best Value Journalism Schools in the Southwest Region to help you in your search for the best school for you. This report analyzed 24 schools in the Southwest Region to see which ones offered the best value programs for journalism students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.

Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.

In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Top 10 Best Journalism Schools

Our 2023 rankings named Austin Community College District the best value school in the Southwest Region for journalism students. Located in the city of Austin, Austin Community College District is a public school with a very large student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at Austin Community College District are $10,590 a year.

In addition to its great value ranking, Austin Community College District is in the top 15% of all schools on our Best Journalism Schools in the Southwest Region list.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend West Texas A&M University. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Best Value Journalism Schools in the Southwest Region list. West Texas A&M University is a medium-sized public school located in the town of Canyon.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate student at West Texas A&M University are $11,208 a year.

You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Northeastern State University. The school came in at #3 on this year’s Best Value Journalism Schools in the Southwest Region list. Located in the remote town of Tahlequah, NSU is a public college with a moderately-sized student population.

NSU undergraduate students pay an average of $15,755 in tuition and fees each year. The average amount in student loans that journalism majors at NSU take out is $18,339.

Texas Tech University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for journalism students. It came in at #9 on the list. Texas Tech is a fairly large public school located in the large city of Lubbock.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Texas Tech are $24,121 per year. Journalism majors at Texas Tech take out an average of $22,500 in student loans while working on their egree.

OSU undergraduate students pay an average of $24,764 in tuition and fees each year. The average amount in student loans that journalism majors at OSU take out is $27,000.
