In 2020-2021, 3,911 people earned a degree or certificate in biotechnology, making the major the #172 most popular in the United States.
When it comes to higher education, there are a lot of options for students. Also there are many trade schools that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Course Advisor has created its Most Popular Biotechnology Schools ranking. This report analyzed 245 schools in the United States to see which ones were the most popular programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Biotechnology program at each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named Seminole State College of Florida the most popular school in the United States for biotechnology students. Located in the small city of Sanford, Seminole State is a public college with a large student population.
Out of the 245 schools in the United States that were part of this year’s ranking, Johns Hopkins University landed the # 2 spot on the list. Johns Hopkins is a very large private not-for-profit school located in the large city of Baltimore.
The excellent programs at Gaston College helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the best biotechnology schools in the United States. Gaston College is a small public school located in the medium-sized suburb of Dallas.
