Our analysis found University of New Mexico - Main Campus to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a master’s degree in New Mexico. UNM is a large public school situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It awarded 1,080 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 57% were women.
UNM does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 38% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means New Mexico State University - Main Campus is a great place for students working on their master’s degree. NMSU Main Campus is located in Las Cruces, New Mexico and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 644 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 61% of those degree recipients were women.

Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at ENMU - Main Campus. In fact, around 99% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent master’s degree programs at Western New Mexico University helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in New Mexico. Located in Silver City, New Mexico, the small public school handed out 253 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #6, University of the Southwest did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their master’s degree. USW is a private not-for-profit institution located in Hobbs, New Mexico. The school has a small population, and it awarded 238 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree programs. Located in Socorro, New Mexico, the small public school awarded 97 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 35% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at New Mexico Tech. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 78% took at least some of their classes online.

St. John’s College ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in New Mexico list. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the very small private not-for-profit school handed out 49 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 43% were women.
St. John’s is one of the schools on our list that is primarily online. Each graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
Southwestern College did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #9 on the list. This very small private not-for-profit school is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and it awarded 41 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 83% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at SWC Santa Fe are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development
With a ranking of #10, Institute of American Indian and Alaska Native Culture and Arts Development did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their master’s degree. Santa Fe, New Mexico is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The public school handed out master’s degrees to 14 students in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at Institute of American Indian Arts are primarily online school, so it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.
