Our 2023 rankings named Western Governors University the most popular school in Utah for students working on their master’s degree. Salt Lake City, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 22,759 students in 2020-2021.
Around 71% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, WGU is an excellent choice, since graduate classes are offered online.
The excellent master’s degree programs at University of Utah helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in Utah. U of U is a large public school situated in Salt Lake City, Utah. It awarded 2,283 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 47% of those degree recipients were women.
U of U does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 68% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Utah State University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Utah list. USU is a public institution located in Logan, Utah. The school has a large population, and it awarded 993 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 51% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at USU. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 52% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
You’ll be in good company if you attend Brigham Young University - Provo. The school came in at #4 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Utah list. BYU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Provo, Utah. The school has a large population, and it awarded 961 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 43% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since BYU does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In fact, around 72% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 14 schools in Utah that were part of this year’s ranking, Southern Utah University landed the # 5 spot on the list. Southern Utah University is a public institution located in Cedar City, Utah. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 511 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 57% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that Southern Utah University does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In 2019-2020 about 96% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Weber State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. Ogden, Utah is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out master’s degrees to 294 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 52% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at WSU. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 80% took at least some of their classes online.
Utah Valley University landed the #7 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree programs. UVU is a large public school situated in Orem, Utah. It awarded 292 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 49% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at UVU. In 2019-2020 about 70% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Westminster College Utah ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Utah list. Westminster College Salt Lake is a private not-for-profit institution located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The school has a small population, and it awarded 215 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 67% were women.
Westminster College Salt Lake does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 9% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Utah list. Located in Provo, Utah, the small private for-profit school awarded 93 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 66% were women.
Since the graduate programs at RMUoHP are primarily online school, so it is a great choice for returning adults and students who work full time.

Dixie State University ranked #10 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Utah list. Dixie State College is located in Saint George, Utah and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 24 master’s degrees to qualified students.
