Our analysis found George Washington University to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a master’s degree in District of Columbia. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the large private not-for-profit school awarded 4,602 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 60% were women.
GWU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 37% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
A rank of #2 on this year’s list means Georgetown University is a great place for students working on their master’s degree. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the large private not-for-profit school handed out 3,975 master’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 53% were women.

The excellent master’s degree programs at American University helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in District of Columbia. You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Strayer University - Global Region. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in District of Columbia list. This fairly large private for-profit school is located in Washington, District of Columbia, and it awarded 1,254 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Gallaudet University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #8 on the list. Located in Washington, District of Columbia, the small private not-for-profit school awarded 128 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.

Trinity Washington University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in District of Columbia ranking. This small private not-for-profit school is located in Washington, District of Columbia, and it awarded 111 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at Trinity College. During the 2019-2020 year, about 99% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Washington DC landed the #10 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular master’s degree programs. The Chicago School Washington DC Campus is located in Washington, District of Columbia and has a very small student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 92 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 88% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that The Chicago School Washington DC Campus does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 20% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
