This report analyzed 51 schools in Indiana to see which ones were the most popular master's degree programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named American College of Education the most popular school in Indiana for students working on their master’s degree. American College of Education is a medium-sized private for-profit school located in Indianapolis, Indiana that handed out 3,484 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 75% were women.
Since the graduate programs at American College of Education are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
The excellent master’s degree programs at Purdue University Global helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in Indiana. Purdue University Global is a public institution located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The school has a large population, and it awarded 3,253 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Since the graduate programs at Purdue University Global are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means Indiana University - Bloomington is a great place for students working on their master’s degree. This large public school is located in Bloomington, Indiana, and it awarded 2,641 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Out of the 51 schools in Indiana that were part of this year’s ranking, Ball State University landed the # 4 spot on the list. Ball State is a large public school situated in Muncie, Indiana. It awarded 2,364 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Online graduate courses are available at Ball State, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In fact, around 91% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 51 schools in Indiana that were part of this year’s ranking, Purdue University - Main Campus landed the # 5 spot on the list. Located in West Lafayette, Indiana, the large public school awarded 2,255 diplomas to qualifed master’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 45% were women.
Purdue does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 60% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Indiana University - Purdue University - Indianapolis did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a master’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. IUPUI is located in Indianapolis, Indiana and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 1,929 master’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 65% of those degree recipients were women.
Online graduate courses are available at IUPUI, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. In 2019-2020 about 71% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Indiana Wesleyan University - National & Global came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Indiana ranking. Marion, Indiana is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out master’s degrees to 1,500 students in 2020-2021.
Around 73% of those degree recipients were women.
IWU does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 90% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.

University of Notre Dame ranked #8 on this year’s Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Indiana list. University of Notre Dame is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in Notre Dame, Indiana that handed out 1,161 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Indiana State University came in at #10 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Indiana ranking. Indiana State is a public institution located in Terre Haute, Indiana. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 512 master’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 68% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Indiana State does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. During the 2019-2020 year, about 71% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
University of Indianapolis came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Master’s Degree Schools in Indiana ranking. UIndy is located in Indianapolis, Indiana and has a medium-sized student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 374 master’s degrees to qualified students.
