Our analysis looked at 104 schools in the Southwest Region to see which doctor's degree programs were the most popular for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our analysis found Texas A&M University - College Station to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a doctor’s degree in the Southwest Region . Texas A&M College Station is a large public school situated in College Station, Texas. It awarded 1,460 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 49% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Texas A&M College Station. In fact, around 23% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at The University of Texas at Austin helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Southwest Region . Located in Tucson, Arizona, the large public school awarded 1,010 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 54% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at University of Arizona. In fact, around 37% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 104 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of Houston landed the # 4 spot on the list. UH is a public institution located in Houston, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 900 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

UH does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In 2019-2020 about 77% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at Arizona State University - Tempe helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Southwest Region . ASU - Tempe is located in Tempe, Arizona and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 897 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Of those students who received their degree, 48% were women.
Online graduate courses are available at ASU - Tempe, but you will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your field of interest. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 42% took at least some of their classes online.
Grand Canyon University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #6 on the list. This large private for-profit school is located in Phoenix, Arizona, and it awarded 829 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Texas Tech University came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Texas Tech is a public institution located in Lubbock, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 513 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 50% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Texas Tech does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 49% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
With a ranking of #8, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. UTHealth is a public institution located in Houston, Texas. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 512 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in Lubbock, Texas, the medium-sized public school handed out 479 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 62% of those degree recipients were women.

With a ranking of #10, Baylor University did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. This large private not-for-profit school is located in Waco, Texas, and it awarded 478 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 49% of those degree recipients were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Baylor. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 77% took at least some of their classes online.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. This small public school is located in San Antonio, Texas, and it awarded 456 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 56% were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at UT Health San Antonio. In 2019-2020 about 1% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.

University of Oklahoma - Health Sciences Center landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. UOHSC is a public institution located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The school has a small population, and it awarded 442 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

UTMB Galveston does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In fact, around 31% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Phoenix - Arizona came in at #17 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in Tempe, Arizona, the large private for-profit school handed out 356 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 69% of those degree recipients were women.
You may have the opportunity to take online graduate classes at UOPX - Arizona. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 99% took at least some of their classes online.
Southern Methodist University came in at #18 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. Located in Dallas, Texas, the fairly large private not-for-profit school handed out 351 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

South Texas College of Law landed the #21 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Located in Houston, Texas, the very small private not-for-profit school awarded 277 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.

Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out South Texas College of Law. Every graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
The University of Texas at Arlington landed the #22 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Located in Arlington, Texas, the large public school handed out 276 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

University of North Texas landed the #23 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. UNT is a public institution located in Denton, Texas. The school has a large population, and it awarded 269 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

The University of Texas at Dallas did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #24 on the list. Located in Richardson, Texas, the large public school handed out 257 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

UT Dallas does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 83% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Texas Southern University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #25 on the list. TSU is a public institution located in Houston, Texas. The school has a medium-sized population, and it awarded 250 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 64% were women.
One thing to take note of is that TSU does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 66% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
