Our analysis looked at 31 schools in the Rocky Mountains Region to see which doctor's degree programs were the most popular for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Utah the most popular school in the Rocky Mountains Region for students working on their doctor’s degree. University of Utah is a large public school located in Salt Lake City, Utah that handed out 815 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 49% were women.
U of U does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. During the 2019-2020 year, about 68% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
You’ll be in good company if you attend University of Colorado Denver/Anschutz Medical Campus. The school came in at #2 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. CU Anschutz is a large public school situated in Denver, Colorado. It awarded 740 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 64% were women.

The excellent doctor’s degree programs at University of Colorado Boulder helped the school earn the #3 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Rocky Mountains Region . CU - Boulder is located in Boulder, Colorado and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 579 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 42% of those degree recipients were women.
Depending on your major, you may be able to take online graduate classes at CU - Boulder. In 2019-2020 about 62% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend The University of Montana. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. UM is a public institution located in Missoula, Montana. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 575 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 62% were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since UM does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 19% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
The excellent doctor’s degree programs at University of Denver helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Rocky Mountains Region . This fairly large private not-for-profit school is located in Denver, Colorado, and it awarded 396 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 59% were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since DU does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. In 2019-2020 about 84% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
With a ranking of #6, Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. Located in Provo, Utah, the small private for-profit school handed out 233 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.
Around 56% of those degree recipients were women.
Interested in an online degree? Then you definitely want to check out RMUoHP. Every graduate student at the school took at least one class online.
University of Wyoming ranked #7 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. Located in Laramie, Wyoming, the fairly large public school awarded 230 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 41% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that UW does offer online graduate classes in some areas. In fact, around 72% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
University of Idaho did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #8 on the list. Located in Moscow, Idaho, the fairly large public school awarded 226 diplomas to qualifed doctor’s degree students in 2020-2021.
Around 41% of those degree recipients were women.
One thing to take note of is that U of I does offer online graduate classes in some areas. During the 2019-2020 year, about 61% of the graduate students at the school took at least one online course.
Colorado State University - Fort Collins came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. Colorado State is located in Fort Collins, Colorado and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 368 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 61% of those degree recipients were women.
If you are interested in distance education, be sure to check with the school since Colorado State does offer online graduate classes for certain majors. Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 67% took at least some of their classes online.

Idaho State University ranked #10 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. ISU is a fairly large public school situated in Pocatello, Idaho. It awarded 193 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.

Brigham Young University - Provo came in at #11 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. BYU is located in Provo, Utah and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 192 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.

Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs landed the #12 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Colorado Technical University - Colorado Springs is a large private for-profit school situated in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It awarded 167 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 23% were women.

Regis University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #13 on the list. Montana State University landed the #15 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Montana State University is a fairly large public school located in Bozeman, Montana that handed out 90 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Around 60% of those degree recipients were women.

Colorado School of Mines came in at #16 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. Golden, Colorado is the setting for this medium-sized institution of higher learning. The public school handed out doctor’s degrees to 88 students in 2020-2021.

With a ranking of #17, University of Northern Colorado did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. University of Northern Colorado is located in Greeley, Colorado and has a fairly large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 84 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 71% of those degree recipients were women.
University of Northern Colorado does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. In fact, around 81% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
With a ranking of #18, Taft University System did quite well on this year’s most popular schools for students working on their doctor’s degree. Taft University System is a very small private for-profit school located in Denver, Colorado that handed out 51 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 39% were women.
Since the graduate programs at Taft Law School are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Boise State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #19 on the list. Boise State is located in Boise, Idaho and has a large student population. In 2020-2021, this school awarded 50 doctor’s degrees to qualified students.
Around 40% of those degree recipients were women.
Boise State does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 80% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
University of Colorado at Colorado Springs ranked #20 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. UCCS is a public institution located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The school has a fairly large population, and it awarded 39 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 44% were women.

Weber State University came in at #22 in this year’s edition of the Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region ranking. Located in Ogden, Utah, the large public school handed out 12 doctor’s degree awards in 2020-2021.

WSU does have options available for those who want to take online graduate classes. You will need to check with the school to see if they are available for your specific major. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 80% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
Northwest Nazarene University ranked #23 on this year’s Most Popular Doctor’s Degree Schools in the Rocky Mountains Region list. NNU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Nampa, Idaho. The school has a small population, and it awarded 9 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 56% were women.
NNU does offer online graduate classes for certain degree levels. In 2019-2020 about 71% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.
Iliff School of Theology landed the #24 spot in the 2023 rankings for the most popular doctor’s degree programs. Denver, Colorado is the setting for this very small institution of higher learning. The private not-for-profit school handed out doctor’s degrees to 8 students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 25% were women.
Some students may be able to take online graduate classes at Iliff School of Theology. In fact, around 71% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Adams State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a doctor’s degree. It came in at #25 on the list. Adams State University is a small public school located in Alamosa, Colorado that handed out 7 doctor’s degrees in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 71% were women.
One thing to take note of is that Adams State does offer online graduate classes in some areas. To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 97% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
