This report analyzed 93 schools in the Great Lakes Region to see which ones had the most popular online graduate certificate programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from schools with online programs.

Our analysis found DeVry University - Illinois to be the most popular school for students who want to pursue a graduate certificate in the Great Lakes Region . Chicago, Illinois is the setting for this large institution of higher learning. The private for-profit school handed out graduate certificates to 821 students in 2020-2021.
Around 61% of those degree recipients were women.
Around 97% of the graduate population registered for at least one online class in 2019-2020.
Out of the 93 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Ball State University landed the # 2 spot on the list. Located in Muncie, Indiana, the large public school awarded 548 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
Around 86% of those degree recipients were women.
To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 91% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means Purdue University Global is a great place for students working on their graduate certificate. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, the large public school awarded 402 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
On average, graduate certificate students take out $33,486 in loans while pursuing their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 78% were women.

A rank of #4 on this year’s list means American College of Education is a great place for students working on their graduate certificate. This medium-sized private for-profit school is located in Indianapolis, Indiana, and it awarded 293 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Around 78% of those degree recipients were women.
Since the graduate programs at American College of Education are online, the school is an excellent choice for graduate students who need more flexibility than what is offered at some other schools.
Air Force Institute of Technology - Graduate School of Engineering & Management
The excellent graduate certificate programs at Air Force Institute of Technology - Graduate School of Engineering & Management helped the school earn the #5 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular schools in the Great Lakes Region . Located in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, the small public school handed out 247 graduate certificate awards in 2020-2021.
Around 19% of those degree recipients were women.
In 2019-2020 about 96% of the graduate students at the school chose to take one or more online courses.

Michigan State University did quite well in this year’s ranking of the most popular places for students to get a graduate certificate. It came in at #6 on the list. This large public school is located in East Lansing, Michigan, and it awarded 257 graduate certificates in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 66% were women.
To give an idea of how popular online courses are at the school, 65% of graduates took at least one course online in 2019-2020.

Bowling Green State University - Main Campus ranked #9 on this year’s Most Popular Online Graduate Certificate Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in Bowling Green, Ohio, the fairly large public school awarded 130 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
On average, graduate certificate students take out $23,107 in loans while pursuing their degree. Of those students who received their degree, 76% were women.

Of all the graduate students enrolled at the school during the 2019-2020 academic year, around 59% took at least some of their classes online.
Chamberlain University - Illinois ranked #21 on this year’s Most Popular Online Graduate Certificate Schools in the Great Lakes Region list. Located in Addison, Illinois, the large private for-profit school awarded 71 diplomas to qualifed graduate certificate students in 2020-2021.
Of those students who received their degree, 89% were women.
