Identifying High-Quality Schools With More Affordable Pricing
When it comes to higher education, there are a lot of options for students. With more and more schools offering online options, you could even register for a great program on the other side of the country. On top of that, there are a considerable number of trade schools and bootcamps that offer fast-track entry to many fields.
To assist you in seeing some of the education options that are available to you, Course Advisor has created its Best Value Schools in Utah ranking. This report analyzed 13 schools in Utah to see which ones offered the best value programs for students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.
This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.
For nationwide and regional rankings, we use out-of-state tuition and fees in our calculations. Average in-state tuition and fees are used for our statewide rankings.

Our 2023 rankings named Salt Lake Community College the best value school in Utah for students working on their degree. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the large public school awarded 5,519 diplomas to qualifed students in 2020-2021.
Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at Salt Lake Community College are $12,734 per year. Degree recipients from the school accumulate an average of $13,438 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Once they receive their degree, Salt Lake Community College graduates enter the workforce, making an average salary of $36,151 during the early year of their career.
Salt Lake Community College also took the #4 spot in our Best Schools in Utah rankings.
The excellent programs at Brigham Young University - Provo helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the best value schools in Utah. BYU is a private not-for-profit institution located in Provo, Utah. The school has a large population, and it awarded 8,028 degrees in 2020-2021.
BYU undergraduate students pay an average of $6,120 in tuition and fees each year. Degree recipients from the school accumulate an average of $14,534 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. During the early years of their career, BYU graduates make an average of $46,470 annually.
In addition to its best value ranking, and one of the reasons why the school is on the list, BYU is ranked #2 for overall quality in Utah.
A rank of #3 on this year’s list means Utah Valley University is a great place for students who want to get the most value for their educational dollar. Utah Valley University is a large public school located in Orem, Utah that handed out 12,591 degrees in 2020-2021.
UVU undergraduate students pay an average of $17,092 in tuition and fees each year. On average, students take out $20,616 in loans while pursuing their degree. During the early years of their career, UVU graduates make an average of $43,719 annually.
UVU also made our Best Schools in Utah list, coming in at #3.
A rank of #4 on this year’s list means Western Governors University is a great place for students who want to get the most value for their educational dollar. This large private not-for-profit school is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it awarded 49,508 degrees in 2020-2021.
WGU undergraduate students pay an average of $7,452 in tuition and fees each year. By the time they get their degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $26,218 in student loans. Once they receive their degree, WGU graduates enter the workforce, making an average salary of $62,838 during the early year of their career.
WGU also took the #1 spot in our Best Schools in Utah rankings.
You’ll join some of the best and brightest minds around you if you attend Weber State University. The school came in at #5 on this year’s Best Value Schools in Utah list. WSU is a public institution located in Ogden, Utah. The school has a large population, and it awarded 6,445 degrees in 2020-2021.

University of Utah came in at #7 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Schools in Utah ranking. Located in Salt Lake City, Utah, the large public school handed out 9,174 degrees in 2020-2021.

Degree recipients from the school accumulate an average of $22,086 in student debt by the time they complete their degree.After graduating from U of U, students go on to jobs where they make an average of $51,388 during the early years of their career.

Dixie State University came in at #8 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Schools in Utah ranking. Saint George, Utah is the setting for this fairly large institution of higher learning. The public school handed out degrees to 2,658 students in 2020-2021.
The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state undergraduate students at Dixie State College are $16,986 a year. Degree recipients from the school accumulate an average of $21,955 in student debt by the time they complete their degree. Once they receive their degree, Dixie State College graduates enter the workforce, making an average salary of $35,951 during the early year of their career.
Utah State University came in at #9 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Schools in Utah ranking. Utah State University is a large public school located in Logan, Utah that handed out 6,936 degrees in 2020-2021.
USU undergraduate students pay an average of $23,435 in tuition and fees each year. On average, students take out $18,083 in loans while pursuing their degree. Once they receive their degree, USU graduates enter the workforce, making an average salary of $42,623 during the early year of their career.
Southern Utah University ranked #10 on this year’s Best Value Schools in Utah list. Southern Utah University is a fairly large public school located in Cedar City, Utah that handed out 2,812 degrees in 2020-2021.

By the time they get their degree, students from this school have racked up an average of $15,205 in student loans. Eagle Gate College - Murray came in at #13 in this year’s edition of the Best Value Schools in Utah ranking. Eagle Gate College - Murray is a very small private for-profit school located in Murray, Utah that handed out 75 degrees in 2020-2021.
