Out of all the majors we analyze each year, music was ranked #43 in the country. In fact 25,910 degrees and certificates were handed out in 2020-2021.

It's not easy to decide which program to enroll in when you have so many options available. You can choose a traditional brick and mortar school, or with the growth of online education, you can attend a school half-way across the country without even leaving your house. Also there are many trade schools that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.

To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Course Advisor has developed this Best Value Music Schools in the Southwest Region ranking. This report analyzed 46 schools in the Southwest Region to see which ones offered the best value programs for music students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.

Our ranking of value is based on the quality of a program as defined in our per sticker price dollar. Specifically, our score for quality is discounted by the published tuition and fees charged by the given college. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The more quality your dollar buys, the better the value.

In our regional and nationwide rankings, out-of-state tution and fees are used in our calculations. For statewide rankings, we use average in-state tuition and fees.

Top 10 Best Music Schools

Our analysis found Collin County Community College District to be the best value school for music students who want to pursue a degree in the Southwest Region . Collin County Community College District is a very large public school located in the medium-sized suburb of McKinney.

Collin County Community College District undergraduate students pay an average of $5,104 in tuition and fees each year.

On top of its placing in our value ranking, Collin County Community College District also did well on our Best Music Schools in the Southwest Region list. It’s in the top 10% of all schools reviewed in this analysis.

Out of the 46 schools in the Southwest Region that were part of this year’s ranking, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley landed the # 5 spot on the list. UT Rio Grande Valley is a very large public school located in the city of Edinburg.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at UT Rio Grande Valley are $19,333 per year. The average amount in student loans that music majors at UT Rio Grande Valley take out is $19,018.

Sam Houston State University ranked #6 on this year’s Best Value Music Schools in the Southwest Region list. SHSU is a fairly large public school located in the town of Huntsville.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at SHSU are $18,752 per year. Music majors at SHSU take out an average of $28,500 in student loans while working on their egree. For students who choose a 10-year repayment plan, the average monthly student loan payment is $181.

The University of Texas at El Paso landed the #8 spot in the 2023 rankings for the best value music programs. UTEP is a very large public school located in the large city of El Paso.

UTEP undergraduate students pay an average of $24,952 in tuition and fees each year. While working on their degree, music majors at UTEP accumulate an average of around $18,670 in student debt.

Texas Woman’s University ranked #9 on this year’s Best Value Music Schools in the Southwest Region list. Located in the city of Denton, TWU is a public school with a large student population.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at TWU are $18,186 per year. After completing their degree, music graduates from TWU carry an average student debtload of $22,542.

Houston, TX

University of Houston did quite well in this year’s ranking of the best value schools for music students. It came in at #10 on the list. Located in the city of Houston, UH is a public college with a fairly large student population.

Out-of-state tuition fees for undergraduate students at UH are $21,891 per year. The average amount in student loans that music majors at UH take out is $25,000.

UH also claimed a spot on our Best Music Schools in the Southwest Region list. It’s in the top 20% of all schools in this category.
