To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Sociology program at each school on the list.

Our 2023 rankings named University of Wisconsin - Madison the most popular school in the Great Lakes Region for sociology students working on their doctor’s degree. UW - Madison is a very large public school located in the large city of Madison.

Women make up 55% of the sociology majors at the school.

University of Chicago

Chicago, IL

The in-demand doctor’s degree programs at University of Chicago helped the school earn the #2 place on this year’s ranking of the most popular sociology schools in the Great Lakes Region . Located in the city of Chicago, UChicago is a private not-for-profit school with a large student population.

About 59% of the students majoring in sociology at the school are women while 41% are male.

Out of the 21 schools in the Great Lakes Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Indiana University - Bloomington landed the # 3 spot on the list. Located in the city of Bloomington, IU Bloomington is a public school with a very large student population.

Of the 13 students majoring in sociology at IU Bloomington, 46% are male and 54% are female.
