Out of all the majors we analyze each year, history was ranked #31 in the country. In fact 32,731 degrees and certificates were handed out in 2020-2021.

This report analyzed 92 schools in the Southeast Region to see which ones were the most popular master's degree programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the History program at each school on the list.

The colleges and universities below are the most popular for history majors pursuing a master's degree.

Our 2023 rankings named American Public University System the most popular school in the Southeast Region for history students working on their master’s degree. American Military University is a fairly large private for-profit school located in the town of Charles Town.

Women make up 25% of the history majors at the school.

Lynchburg, VA

Out of the 92 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, Liberty University landed the # 2 spot on the list. Liberty University is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of Lynchburg.

Fairfax, VA

A rank of #3 on this year’s list means George Mason University is a great place for history students working on their master’s degree. GMU is a very large public school located in the suburb of Fairfax.

You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend University of North Carolina at Wilmington. It ranked #4 on our 2023 Most Popular History Master’s Degree Schools in the Southeast Region list. UNCW is a large public school located in the midsize city of Wilmington.
