Out of all the majors we analyze each year, information science was ranked #57 in the country. In fact 18,325 degrees and certificates were handed out in 2020-2021.

Also there are many trade schools that offer short-term programs that open up more career options.
To help you arm yourself with the information you need to make your decision, Course Advisor has developed this Most Popular Information Science Schools in the Southeast Region ranking. This report analyzed 104 schools in the Southeast Region to see which ones were the most popular programs for students. To create this ranking we looked at how many students graduated from the Information Science program at each school on the list.

Top 15% Most Popular Information Science Schools
Our analysis found Virginia Commonwealth University to be the most popular school for information science students who want to pursue a degree in the Southeast Region . Located in the midsize city of Richmond, VCU is a public college with a very large student population.
On average, IS graduates from VCU take out $26,269 in student loans while working on their degree. Assuming that a graduate chooses a 10-year repayment plan, the average monthly loan payment is $213.
Out of the 104 schools in the Southeast Region that were part of this year’s ranking, James Madison University landed the # 2 spot on the list. JMU is a fairly large public school located in the city of Harrisonburg.
After completing their degree, IS graduates from JMU carry an average student debt load of $23,400. When it comes time to repay the loan, graduates who are on a 10-year repayment plan pay an average monthly payment of $244.
You’ll be in good company if you decide to attend Georgia Southern University. It ranked #3 on our 2023 Most Popular Information Science Schools in the Southeast Region list. Located in the town of Statesboro, GaSou is a public college with a very large student population.
On average, IS graduates from GaSou take out $28,850 in student loans while working on their degree. This translates to an average monthly loan payment of $119, based on a 10-year repayment plan.

The school came in at #5 on this year’s Most Popular Information Science Schools in the Southeast Region list.
