This report analyzed 7 schools in the Far Western US Region to see which ones offered the best value master's degree programs for biotech students. The goal was to highlight schools with more affordable prices than others offering similar quality experiences.

This ranking is not just a list of inexpensive schools. We also consider each school's quality, since we believe a low-quality school may not be a 'bargain' at any price. More specifically, we discount our quality score by the published tuition and fees charged by a school. This gives the cost per unit of quality for each college. The value is determined by how much quality your dollar buys.

Best Far Western US Region Schools for Affordable Quality for a Master's in Biotechnology

Our 2023 rankings named California State University - Channel Islands the best value school in the Far Western US Region for biotechnology students working on their master’s degree. Located in the suburb of Camarillo, CSUCI is a public school with a moderately-sized student population.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at CSUCI are $17,755 a year.

San Francisco, CA

Out of the 7 schools in the Far Western US Region that were part of this year’s ranking, University of San Francisco landed the # 2 spot on the list. USFCA is a fairly large private not-for-profit school located in the city of San Francisco.

The average tuition and fees for an out-of-state graduate students at USFCA are $27,250 a year.
