The Nationally Registered and Certified Medical Assistant program prepare students with the knowledge, technical skills and work habits required for entry-level positions in the healthcare field. This program includes instruction in both the clinical and administrative aspects of medical assisting, anatomy and physiology, and CPR certification. Students have the opportunity to practice the skills they learned in class during their externship. Graduates of this program may perform duties in both the administrative and clinical areas of a doctor’s office, clinic, or other medical facilities. Specific duties may include assisting the physician with exams and minor surgery, administering medication, performing electrocardiographs, phlebotomy, minor laboratory procedures, and vital signs, interviewing patients for medical histories, medical record documentation, reception duties, insurance billing, and bookkeeping duties.
